Solar Power Plant Project At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya will join the list of Museums that are powered by solar energy. The Museum will switch on its modest 15 KW on grid roof top solar energy power plant consisting of 60 solar photovoltaic panels. The plant, which is expected to generate around 70 units on full sunny day. These plant is set up with the financial support of Rotary Club of Bombay at a cost of around Rs 15 lakhs. This plant was inaugurated on June 29, 2015.

This plant is installed with the noble intention to save environment by using green energy. The objective is to provide feasible and sustainable renewable energy source for generation of clean and green electricity.

“We feel this is a timely and logical response to the current environmental and energy concerns,” said the Museum’s Director General Shri S. Mukherjee.

Units generation per year : 21,000
Saving in Rs. per year : Over Rs. 3 Lacs

In 2007, The Museum set up a rainwater harvesting system that helps maintain its garden,” added Mukherjee. The Museum, founded in 1922 and houses around 50,000 art, architecture and natural history artifacts, has a high power consumption. It uses 55,000 units to power its ACs, lights and fans and its monthly bill cycle comes up to Rs 6.6 lakh. The solar unit will help offset the need for at least 2,000 units a month, said Mukherjee. “This is exactly the amount of power needed for us to light up our garden and surrounding areas,” he added. Apart from power savings, The Museum’s high footfall will ensure that the need to use clean energy will reach more people. “It gets more than 1 million visitors annually. If parts of it are powered by solar energy, we will be able to send out a strong signal to visitors,” said Madhusudan Daga, chairman of Rotary Club’s environmental committee.

Awareness about the need to adopt clean energy is lacking in Mumbai, says Rishi Aggarwal, research fellow at the Observer Research Foundation. He has been working on ‘Mumbai Solar Mission’ project in a bid to motivate government bodies like BMC and SEEPZ to invest in renewable energy so as to reduce the city’s dependence on conventional sources by at least 10%.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

• Approximately 300 days of solar generation will help to save over Rs. 3 Lakhs per year.

• 9,900 Kgs of greenhouse gas emissions displaced annually*.

• Electricity generated is directly fed into the grid thereby no batteries are needed.

Average generation of 21,000 units (KWh) per year
Savings in electricity bill for 25 long years

Solar Power Plant Project At Smt. Kamladevi Mittal Hospital

Solar Power Plant Project At Smt. Kamladevi Mittal Hospital

The present and not the future of civilisation and much biodiversity hangs to a large degree on whether we can replace fossil fuels – coal, oil and gas – with clean, safe and affordable energy within several decades. The good news is that renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures have advanced with extraordinary speed over the past decade. In tune with Hospital’s CSR initiative and also to see a major reduction in their energy costs as well as reducing their carbon footprint, the management installed their first solar plant in which their unit rate for the grid meter is Rs. 17/unit and from the solar plant the rate of electricity generated is only Rs. 3/unit.

Smt. Kamaladevi Gouridutt Mittal Ayurvedic Hospital has Panchakarma, Rasayan, Kshar-Sootra Centre of Ayurvedic Treatment for all common diseases. Indoor Patient department has total strength of 152 bed of which average occupied beds are 120 to 130. Outdoor patient department daily accomplish around 1000 patients.

The Hospital has installed a premium 20 kW grid tie solar power plant which will generate power @ Rs 3 /unit as against existing commercial rate of Rs 17/ unit will help the Hospital to save over Rs 3 lacs per year.
